 supports the

Law Enforcement Torch Run

for Special Olympics New Jersey

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is an international series of relays by Law Enforcement Officers to raise money for Special Olympics.  A Torch Run is held each year in every state throughout the United States and in 25 countries around the world.

For 16 years, the Special Olympics torch has been carried throughout New Jersey, signifying the achievements and the personal courage of Special Olympics athletes.

Thousands of Law Enforcement volunteers have participated in the Torch Run by collecting donations though the Adopt-A-Cop program, and running in the Torch Run.  To date, over 6 million dollars has been raised for Special Olympics New Jersey.

The involvement of police officers is not limited to the Torch Run.  Their year-round volunteer efforts at Area and Chapter events have been very strong.  Their support ranges from cooking for the athletes and volunteers, to presenting awards at competitions.

Law Enforcement fund-raising activities this past year included not only the Torch Run, but other events such as the Polar Bear Plunge, Plane Pull, three Golf Tournaments, Beach Party, Fishing Tournament, Day at the Races, Ben Franklin Bridge Run and the Lincoln Tunnel Challenge Fun Run.

Captain Joseph Madden of the Park Ridge Police Department, in cooperation with town businesses,  residents, and PBA local #206 has raised over $4000.00 this year for the Special Olympics.  Anyone wishing to find out more information about the Torch Run can contact Captain Madden at 391-5400 or visit the Special Olympics New Jersey Website - www.sonj.org.  We would like to thank everyone for their generous support for the Special Olympics.
